Marie Calendar’s “Pie Month” may soon be a thing of the past. The parent company of Marie Calendar’s and Perkins Restaurants has filed for bankruptcy. Despite the recent bankruptcy filing, Marie Calendar’s will continue to operate as it restructures its business. Rising food costs and a major recession in California and Florida have contributed to its demise. As part of its bankruptcy plan, Marie Calendar’s will close 31 locations and cut nearly 2,500 jobs. By restructuring its debt, Marie Calendar’s hopes to be able to update its restaurants and menu to reflect changing tastes. While I personally welcome a revamped menu, I hope “Pie Month” does not become a casualty of the bankruptcy.
